It's the middle of April and summer's been over for quite a while now. These past few weeks haven't been great—exams and assignments combined with shitty weather has made for quite a sad time. I've tried to connect and socialise with people, but I don't know, people have been pretty self-centred lately. I think a lot of people can relate to the feeling of being the least significant person in a group, or 'knowing' someone but not really being a true friend of theirs.
Writer's block has really been hitting me as of late. I still haven't finished this school application because I keep trying to get it perfect. As for this zine? Well, the purpose of this was more or less to try and get myself out there, form connections, and be involved in the scene somehow during a time where I wasn't a musician. Well, it's been proven to me that you don't need to do big things to be cool or popular—what really gets you famous is connections and attention. What's the point of doing big things if you don't get any attention because nobody hears about it? You gotta know how to market yourself.
People will do anything for attention—just look at how many people started their careers by having a celebrity simply talk about them, by shittalking a celebrity, or by having a connection to a celebrity. I want to use this platform to promote local bands who don't have a platform, but really, fame is something that takes a certain level of people skills or nepotism to achieve. What I'm trying to say here is that I don't know, one part of me wants to do this as a way to get back to my roots, but the other part of me knows that this probably won't be an effective way to get me out of this rut.
Well, this zine has an interview with Brax, a local visionary, musician, and record label executive, as well as a review of the festival organised by him and his team, and what everyone has been talking about—Skatepunk. Have at it.
