Isolation Week

A week alone in a library to finish the MIC application, written under pressure that beat the deadline anyway; the queen street crew's rise and the storms that broke it up.

15 april 25 distinctly remember writing this in a library intending for it to be the editorial that finally works and for me to finally start collating the double issue but i fell under the pressure Breakbone 7

I am writing from a time of isolation for me. After quite a few awful past weeks, I've decided to just focus on myself for the time being, until I finish writing this school application that I haven't finished due to me trying to get it perfect. The purpose of this week-long period of isolation from my friends and acquaintances is to finish work and connect with myself instead of lingering in escapism and ultimately making shit worse.

I'm gonna start my reflections on the scene with what I've observed about people lately. People are really self-centred as much as they love to not admit it. I feel like many friend groups have a lot of shared history together, and unless someone's able to spend a lot of time or has connections within the group, they're not welcome, unless they have something to give for free or benefit the group in some way, but even then they're not part of the inner circle. Of course there are exceptions, but this is a general pattern that I've noticed as of late.

The gigs have slowed down by quite a bit. The miserable weather lately has made gig organising difficult, and it's had quite a large effect on me. I feel like from late February to mid-May it was late my life was heading in a bright direction. I met one of my very good friends out of pure chance in the city. What's even more crazier, we met some other people also by pure chance and the 'queen street crew' became a thing.

That path my life was heading in got sent down another once the storms hit. At the same time the combination of many conflicts between people, some truly ridiculous events, being cooped inside, and the knock-on effect that causes which makes you unable to deal with random assholes made for a horrible, horrible time.

I know I sound pretty negative, and many of you have had different experiences these last few months, but this is how I've felt.
