Letter to Noel Gallagher

A stream-of-consciousness address to Noel Gallagher; the 76-96-26 fifty years thesis, and the claim to being the voice of a generation.

I've cracked your masterplan Noel Gallagher. It was a bloody good one.

If somehow fate works out to be the way it is and you get my message. You were right. Oasis are right. Blur are right. The Britpop, indie, alternative, revival, post punk whatever were fucking right.

The end is nigh. The reason Oasis is the biggest name in rock and roll right now is somehow poetic. The world is heading towards a very carefully engineered catastrophe. The faces of rock and roll are aging out and going into the graves dime a dozen.

You realised that trying to take the big 26 just wouldn't be right. It should be a new generation doing it. A 'new race' as us Birdmen call it:

I am that voice of a generation.

Right now, the only ones who make it in the music business are the nepo babies, rich cunts, whiny assholes, and other bing booms who have a microphone but who we really want to tell to fuck off because we know they don't deserve any of that shit.

I spent today being surveiled around by the fat bing booms of Brisbane, looked at because I'm the attraction according to those European, Indian, Sri Lankan tourists who've flown in to laugh it all off in their our face because they think that by just having the status, caste, career, life where one can afford to go overseas affords them some type of right to say that 'welp... we got out, you bastards haven't. We're fucking watching you dickheads.

I knew to fucking rest my palm on my Braun Buffel wallet within my Ed Hardy pants just to feel like I actually own what I fucking own. It doesn't matter who we like to say we are because at the end of the day we're just a heart and a brain, and we want the world to stop trying to carve bits of us up because we are the world.

I'm watching some letters spring up on my computer screen. To the right of me is a bottle of water with an electrolyte drink in it.

You guys were just a bunch of ordinary dudes. You guys liked rock and roll and then realised that nobody was actually 'going to save rock and roll' and so literally became the legends you looked up to. The legends that feel so fucking good and so fucking right. Every gig you guys played had a purpose. The first was to get Noel interested. The second was to get the attention of some band who had made it who I cant recall right now because I'm a human being and you know right I am.

You guys realised it. It may not be what anyone who isn't a part of your culture realised. I realise it and I'm saying it right now on my life because no one else saying's it.

The fact that what you and Liam are doing is the biggest thing to have happened SHOWS through giving what you guys do an ironic, poetic truth.

I know I don't have all the time in the world to say what I want to say or be what I want to be. Given the current state of the world and of people. What shocks me isn't just the isanity they do. It's that they chose to try and dish out their insanity through having all that bing boom bing boom bullshit happen.

The Who were right. Meet the new boss. It's the same as the old boss. I don't care what brand or colour I have to choose in this system. All I care about is the one that may say they're for the 'labourers' for 'the greens' even though I know the actions just are not gonna add up to what they say.

You guys played two shows in Australia this tour. I haven't heard the story of what went on during your guys' Be Here Now tour. Hell, when you guys were here I just knew Wonderwall and Don't Look Back in Anger.

But here's what I have to say to you mate. You know bloody Brisbane. You know that those who come out from here are either dead (because he had a heart that imploded on it's own weight), dying right now as we speak, or be the one of a lucky few who fucking made it. Who got chosen. Who made it big. Who made history.

You guys didn't even have to come here to play a show. I not just heard but knew what you guys were and still on about.

The reason "The Saints 73-78", Radio Birdman, and bands and PEOPLE who you're gonna know about like Findaway are doing what they do is:

To make money

Because they've got a message to say and it's right.

Because what's even more insane is how we may very well be heading into a fucking CATASTROPHE if don't get our heads in. We've already unfucked the ozone layer. We the people don't want to hear whatever YOU, our naysayers have to say.

We know that each second of a song should ideally be one that earnt it. We know that the branding, the merchandise, the media, the whatever can be how it's gonna be because we saw how those before us got up, worked their asses off grinding steel or doing whatever bullshit the rich man wants us to do just for us to fucking survive.

I sit here writing this while some fucking hoons try and say 'OWWWW YEAH THE END IS NIGH WE WANNA GET YOU NIGH' by speeding up and down the suburban roadway my place of residence happens to be.

I sit here writing it. I used to think of myself as an absolute nobody. Hmmf... umAptly enough. I sit here doubting if what I'm saying is right and would even be heard. But I know what The Masterplan is and what my role is going to be.

My name's Ingvar Lim and yes, some people from my town say that I'm asshole. They're completely right and part of the cosmic joke is how we know its all a fair game until someone quits, gets quitted or takes it like how you guys took it publicly and unbiblically with Blur.

You guys just came out and owned up to when you guys took it too far and you knew it. That's what the people in my town are bothered about. If they want me to feel like shit, I fucking have. I have when I was brought into this world without my consent. I really got to know what it's like to feel like shit for me was when my parents were emotionally absent not just in their relationship but with me period. It was when I didn't have anyone to sort out and do the fucking shit adults are supposed to do.

I'm not talking about your bare essentials. What I'm referring to is being the living translator for some people are themselves rightfully fucked up and have literally told me they realised they fucked up in having me but having done so would still very much rather have me right here, right now because that's all that matters.

I've navigated myself out of my own mindthinkering bullshit to the extent where I have an idea of what I'm gonna say and how I'm say it period. That's what today "should've" meant and that'll do. Today was gonna be the day. I just knew that today was going to be sublime until I realised that it's all carefully constructed for someone to take the reins. To be the voice of the big 26. And I just knew it. That person is me.

But I'm not an idiot. Noel, you weren't an idiot when you knocked on all the doors, got a radio interview and went on TV and played every show which you knew was going to be your big break.

But it just wasn't 'happening'. Looking back on it now you see how it was the fucking Masterplan at it again which makes it poetic so that's why you give press interviews the way you do. The way you do the things you do. Everyone has really tried to create our own brand of it but we all know we're not just appreciating the legendary work of the legends that have come before us. What's fucking insane is when you've got the mic, the people, the practice, the time but it just doesn't feel right because you don't feel right. Because maybe we aren't right and that's okay.

I can go on and on about the same old shit. What I'd be just repeating and saying just in a different way is that my God...

I know it's only rock and roll, but I like it. It's the reason I sought out the story and heard such story not just second hand but first hand from fucking people.

The Saints earnt every single particle of the recording tape to "(I'm) Stranded". From just reading their story or fucking hearing it in their music, they knew they only had a limited time to say where gonna say, and they knew that waiting any longer or trying to not feel any longer, to not show up, to not fucking live just wasn't cutting it anymore. Even if they felt hurt, used, hell, stranded, they decided to try and actually do it. To become legends. To have died at least feeling somewhat grateful knowing you've done what you wanted to do. To walk slowly down the hall of fame and know you're standing on the shoulder of giants watching the new giants, the new race because Radio Birdman were fucking right. Isn't it weird how it feels like we could talk forever even though we've just met?

I'm just gonna say it because it's not just what 'yee' and 'yah' are telling me to do and which I know I can do to get them to piss off or the irony creating itself.

I know I've done things that weren't right. I've been an absolute fucking dickhead and I'm not just saying it to take the piss even though I am, it's because people, some of them rightfully so even if their actions and intentions say overwise wanted me to feel bad. And you fucking bet I've had it at times. But what has always helped me were those people who knew how to break the unobliged, unbiased, sometimes un-sublime reality which for too long I've been trying to un- live and not think and not feel but now I have and I'm pleased to say the old 'me' had to die. He did his job, did it well, and for a long time have tried unwrite and unhear just so he could think he's right. I'm doing it right now. I was wrong.

I wrote about people who I used to think of as 'peers' and of whom I don't even know what the word is. That doesn't matter.

What matters is how I wrote and presented them in a way that was part of me trying to carefully engineer the outcome I wanted. I was being a complete idiot who just needed to do better and now I know that.

I feel that us youth in bris BUHN really get you Mancunians. We take the piss at each other and yeah, it's a game I didn't know the rules of nor knew how to play but from what I've been told and what I get the gist, the idea of is that we know we're the shit. Those who really know it have people knowing their truth. You guys could've said everything you wanted to say with 'Rock N Roll Star', 'Live Forever', 'The Masterplan', "Don't Look Back In Anger", 'Wonderwall'.

What makes it really get at you is when you know the way your life is, the way the world is just isn't right. It's when it doesn't even matter how it sounds or what words are used to say it.

I listened to I'm Stranded by The Saints today and it was supersonic. It took on a new meaning not because of what trains it had to take to be here now but as the track leads us all to think to ourselves: who are these guys, what are they on about, and why do they think it matters?

I listened to that track off some rando software that just happened to let me play what I wanted to play and not have to fucking hear some fucker with money first.

I could literally hear the tape buzzing in, the hiss coming in, the fucking nerves those guys must have had to give it their all and capture it into the history books. I heard that crackle and then I knew the needle was in the groove. Chris Bailey's snarl yet soulful voice that was like that of Elvis had authority to it and you could just tell that he was not having it and didn't feel like he had a right to say it deep down but just did it. From the moment they started playing you knew they felt stranded. Everyone in bloody Brisbane feels stranded. Hell, everyone feels stranded. It's even more poetic that sometimes the message itself gets stranded.

But it wasn't just about Chris Bailey, Ed Kuepper, Ivor Hay and Kym Bradshaw did. It's about what it meant.

The Saints live up to their name and that itself is a statement. They knew that had different personalities in the band that can really drive you insane but which are like the yin and yang and it needed to happen for a certain moment in time. That's what they did.

To us, what it meant was literally being shown that yes, in a world that doesn't want to hear you or wants you to be heard, you can take ownership and really own what you say with you've got and the time you have. That's what all of try to do. The Saints, and Radio Birdman inspired people like me to pick up the mic and be that voice of a generation that comes into existence when it stops questioning itself and owns what it says given what it's got and the time it has to say it.

I'm sitting here, at the number 26 on my calendar, wondering why everyone's living like the end is nigh, sitting at what I've just written, which I bloody hope makes it to where to needs to be. Half the world away. All around the world.

76 was the year punk made it big. 96 was the year a bunch of 'British' makepopamamadudes made history. 26 is fifty full-blown years and if a government ad's right about one thing,

IT'S TIME.

But it's gonna be OUR TIME. Because I see how it is Noel and what you're really setting up is a question of who is the best at saying who they are, what they're about and why they do what they do in the time they have.

Bands like Turnstile are fucking spreading the word and you bet they are considering how it's gotten to the point my teachers talk shit but shit that matters because I know what they're on about. The reason I started what I do is to show what I'm on about.

I know what I'm on about. I'm sharing how I feel, and I just already know that some people agree with me even if they may not exactly see it in how I've executed or said it but which they know is true.

Writing this piece is for me. It is my thoughts scribbled in in pieces of paper or other people's minds. It's what I've taken the time right now to say because I thought it was right.

And I just fucking know that there's a chance of me standing up but still casting no shadow because that's how it feels to be stranded. I know that what I've got to say has to first be right, and be right to the people that it's about. About the scene that I've sworn at, said was dying, and have been an utter shithead to.

And yeah, I know that it's going to take those people and our shared determination to fucking make it big. Which is why I've written this all out first for me and then for the person who I just know is the no bullshit voice regarding what I've done, what I do, and what I should do in the future.

But yeah, even though this is 2825 words right now which is a couple over the number 26-00 which I bloody will get on point because I do things with a purpose and because if there's one thing my parents are right about, it's that what I do is excellent. What they may not say but which I know they feel is that sometimes I use my ability for the wrong shit, for the wrong purposes. I've got the message, I've spoke what I needed to say. We're the answer.

make sure I because

Iven in a world like this, the only thing you've got is a heart and a brain, and

gonna fucking write bec
